Meaning of the surname
For those of you who share this surname, I don't have to remind you of the teasing you may have received during your school days. I eventually turned that experience into something positive when I began to trace the family history of this name by finding out exactly what it meant. I was quite astonished to find our however that it was not connected to anything nasty but was derived from an old french old latin name meaning Baker. Yes that is right it's an occupational name which was connected to that of Baker. Some years aga a sketch was found in Taunton Record Office from a 'Coat of Arms,' of a bakers paddle featuring three buns, (as pictured here). The Pester name came to England before or around 1100 and eventually became numerous in the 'West Country,' with the highest number in the county of Somerset.
